Life Cycle

One of the constant themes throughout The Crystal Crux series is the cycle of life. While some people are ambitious and constantly striving for tomorrow, for the next new thing, the next best pleasure, there are others who want to cling to the now and not only live in the now, but imprison it, lock it up and preserve it so nothing ever changes because change can be scary.

Pero de Alava has gone through a lot of changes in the first four books (first 7 days), and he just left Eliade, a place where time has almost frozen, and everything seems fresh and new but there is really no cycle of life.

Pero is pondering the security in that sort of life whereas the qilin he is riding reminds him that the real beauty in life can only happen when life has a cycle, when things change and life ends, or life starts over. It’s a difficult process for all of us but without it, I personally feel we’d all be a lot colder people, and this world is already cold enough. Selah
