Sinibaldus is a showman.  He’s learned that with the power and majesty of the Bellerophon Crystal, theatrics can go a long way.  People are generally superstitious anyway.  To add a host of gyrations and incantations to the lighting ceremony of the Stone makes it all the more dramatic and mystical.  Unnecessary, but dramatic and mystical.
