“Much is at stake,” Gherardus reminded Sinibaldus. “I’m putting a great deal of faith in you. You must be sure. If Pero outwits you and somehow escapes Eagles Pass, there will be hell to pay.”
“No one escapes from Eagles Pass. Pero de Alava shall die.” The giant used both hands to jerk open the v-necked collar on his robe. The dramatic move revealed a large translucent crystal the size of a large man’s fist dangling from a hemp cord over his heart like a glimmering talisman. “The power of Bellerophon is still with me.”
Unimpressed, Gherardus rose sluggish from the throne, the burden of his blessed age coursing painfully through his legs. Moaning and reluctant to walk, Gherardus kissed his gold ring before placing the same hand on Sinibaldus’ tall shoulder. “Behold the fig which has withered on the vine, the swine undulating back and forth in the sludge. I have no strength or conviction to offer anyone.” He stared Sinibaldus straight in the eye and did not blink. “You are correct, my friend, I would betray you.”
Gherardus staggered despondently down the aisle towards the same wooden pillars he had brushed aside a sin ago, once nearly tripping over a hurried little lizard that scurried across his path. As he breached the threshold between the cella and the hall, he muttered in amusement, “And to think, I admire Pero more than any other bastard in my court. Awful surely does not do me justice.”
– Excerpt from The Crystal Crux Series : Betrayal
The next book is coming along! I have made a lot of progress. And it is promising to be a big book, a big thick book. I have the first 21 chapters fully written and somewhat edited and really like where it is going. This is adding up to about 56,000 words so far and I am not even halfway through. I am thinking the entire tale might be around 200,000 words when I am done.
And what is it about? Well, let’s just say Pero was not killed. In fact, he never goes to Eagles Pass. Awakened by some powerful stroke of intuition that warns him not to leave, a force that makes him feel as if he’s been missing for days, Pero locks down Capua and arrests the spies sent in to initiate a siege.
What will Pero’s enemies do now? He has disobeyed a direct command from the court in Parthenope and is prepared to make a stand. Rugerius and his mercenary forces, without proper siege equipment, are waiting in the ruins of an ancient coliseum to attack. The gates will not be open for them as planned. The siege will be stopped before it can start. What will the men of Mors Cohortem do? Where will they go?
Rugerius Fabbro is not the type of man to turn tail and retreat.
I am really looking forward to finishing this new book and getting some feedback.
AND, in other news, I am rewriting the first five books, Betrayal, Blue Grotto, Cold Knight, Shimmer and Beautiful, and placing them in a one volume set. That’s right. One large Crystal Crux book.
Why?
Because I plan to take all the originals off Amazon. I personally don’t want to be associated with Amazon anymore.
I am still unsure what format or publishing venue I will be using but I will let everyone know when I am closer to publishing.
If everything goes as planned, I hope to release the 5 volume set as well as the new book in Fall of 2025. I really don’t want it to take longer than that. I actually have quite a few other writing projects I am anxious to get to.
Until next time, stay inspired and keep reading!
