Today, August 15, 2026
is exactly 828 years after the third day in my book series.
The year was 1198.

I decided early on to begin each day of the series with a scripture I felt sort of captured the essence of something major happening in the story on that day.

On DAY THREE, Pero, being shaken by a boy reading a few words from Scripture, wanders out to one of the semaphores surrounding the sanctuary prison, and hears a siren calling him, which he mistakes for an angel. Without his armor and sword, he leaves and gets lost in a field full of wolves.
Rugerius has Anthea chained up beneath Capri where the magician Sinibaldus tries his best to undo her virtue only to discover that there is a more powerful spirit inhabiting her that won’t let him. Sinibaldus has never encountered such a beautiful and terrifying spirit.
Sinibaldus sends Rugerius on a wide-goose chase to hunt down the escaped Pero on Eagles Pass, so he can have more time to investigate and battle this spirit in Anthea.
Francis Whitehall makes it to the Happy Spider where he hears rumors about the War Queen still being docked at Mondragone. His former squire, Merle Gilmore is captain of that ship. Francis now has a hopeful destination in mind.

I am counting down all ten days in a row this week and offering up one of my favorite paragraphs from each day.
The excerpt below is in the sanctuary prison, at the very border near a semaphore. Pero has done the unthinkable and stepped out beyond it. Tomas the teen is nervous but excited. He’s long dreamed of being delivered, of fleeing the prison

As moments passed and there were no signs of threatening fauna or aggressive fowl, Tomas considered the impossible. ‘Has the cage door been unlocked? Is Pero a deliverer? Can we leave and begin a new life?’
His mouth dry, his head sweating profusely, Tomas did the unthinkable. He crossed the line and caught up with the caballero.
‘This is the furthest from home I have been in nine years.’

As sirens call to Pero and wolves start to howl in the distance, Tomas loses his nerve and rushes back behind the semaphore.
Pero leaves. He walks off into the wilderness.
Tomas runs home more confused than ever.
